I stumbled upon this collection of short stories by the author, Zi Xinyu, and just had to translate them.

Her writing is simple, but her characters are complex. They’ll bring you into their world and their circumstances. You’ll sympathise with them, you’ll feel their joy and sorrow, and your heart will ache along with them… I’ve teared up while reading the stories and again while translating them.
